Personally, I believe tackling this problem is likely to need more than a simple ban of advertising of food products.While it is undeniable that advertisements of junk foods can be seen everywhere and they indeed have a strong appeal to people, particularly young children who have weak judgment and simply cannot resist temptations. However, banning these advertising is unlikely to limit the number of overeaters. This means if a person enjoys the convenience of fast foods, he won't quit eating them whether there is an ad on these foods or not. Since the power of ads is not as immense as it is expected, banning ads might be not effective in combating this problem.There may be better ways of tackling this overeating problem. Not every individual understands clearly about the potential risks of overeating, although they do get some knowledge from school but this is far from enough. By this I mean the government should take its citizens' health conditions seriously and take some practical measures such as publishing pamphlets on healthy eating tips and holding public lectures on healthy dieting. By educating the public, particularly the parents, there is hope that unhealthy eating habits like overeating among the young generation are likely to be eliminated. Besides, high tax penalties could be imposed on high-fat food products, as rising cost might discourage production and reduce the demand.In my opinion, focusing on banning ads is too narrow an approach and would not have desired results.
